As soon as I hit "purchase" I felt as though I single-handedly shut down an independent bookstore. I began mentally beating myself up with the memories of my favorite bookstore downtown that is no longer selling books.
Up until this point, I had eschewed all fancy-pants-space-aged media. My iPod is still in its box because I can't bring myself to buy music online. I like to own the album and read the lyrics and liner notes. I like going to book stores and having the actual hard copy in my hands, folding down pages I want to re-read, and filling it with stains and crumbs. (Don't lend me you books if you want to keep them looking good.) and I enjoy going to the video store to peruse the DVDs, reading the backs and holding them in my hands.
I guess you can say I like my media tangible. I'll read you, Kindle, but as I do it I'll be clutching my tapes, books, laser discs, and betamax tapes tightly to my heart.
On that note, any book recommendations?

I know what you mean but I sure do have a hot hot love affair with my Kindle. I love that thing SO MUCH.
Book rec's: I've been recommending Water for Elephants to everyone. I really liked it. (and you know my BOYFRIEND is starring in the movie which I believe comes out in March, yowza!) (I can loan you the book via Kindle!) Another one that I liked was Room: A Novel - I could NOT put that one down. Another: The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes and another - The Help by Kathyrn Stockett. Right now I'm reading an indie author - basically it's Twilight take 2 - a series of four vampire novels. I'm so ashamed to admit (not really) that I really dig them. The gal writes really well. Her name is Amanda Hocking; the first book in the series is My Blood Approves.
I feel the same way you do about music, but I am pretty sure that I don't feel that way about books. Santa just brought my wife a kindle for christmas. She used to like the physical book, I am pretty sure she likes the Kindle.
(Are there any independent bookstores left in Toledo?)

I'm with you about the kindle. While I LOVE Kimber. (My kindle...) I can GUARANTEE that I wouldn't have purchased her if I lived in the States.
What kind of books are you looking for?

I am not what you call an avid reader, but occasionally I do pick up a book and read (I read cook books like people read regular books....weirdo).
I am like you, I like the physical book (or records or CD's). I like the idea of turning pages and having a big book in my hands...or stacking them on our bookshelf. But if I was a big reader, I may like this. My parents love it and they travel alot and it is mighty convenient.
The only types of books that I DON'T like are romance and make you cry on purpose sad bastard ones. Other than that, I'm open to everything!
I feel the same way about the whole kindle/nook/e reader thing. In theory I totally love them but I really love the feel, smell, look of books, & hell I really just love buying them. And oh how I love a pretty bookmarks, I mean what the hell am I going to do with my bookmarks if I get a nook?
MOving on....I second Wendy's suggestion of Water for Elephants, it's sad in parts but incredibly beautiful & moving. Right now I'm starting The Heretic's Daughter, I'll let ya know how it goes. Have you read any of the Charlene Harris Sookie Stackhouse series? I am completely obsessed with them, they are kinda funny and a different spin on the whole vampire werewolf stories. The other stuff I could suggest is probably far too depressing for ya.
