What to do with...Christmas Cards???

I've spent a good portion of the day trying to clean up, do bills, and organize while Ms. Bee naps. I have an ENORMOUS pile of Christmas cards staring at me that I just don't know what to do with. So.... what ARE you supposed to do with them? Do you keep them in a box? Are you a jerk if you throw them away?

Be honest, what did you do with yours?

I keep the ones that are pictures, all the rest I throw away. . . . don't need the clutter!

Ok, here's what I HONESTLY did when I lived in the States and actually RECEIVED Christmas cards.

First, I would cut out "gift tags" from the images on the front of the card. (As long as there was no writing on the back/inside of the card.) You can cut any shape you want.

Then I'd hole-punch a teeny whole, and weave it into next year's wrapping scheme. "To: C. From: K."

I don't care AT ALL if my wrapping paper and my "gift tag" match, so it was super fun.

AND another fun thing I did, thanks to Martha Stewart was make garland.

I cut 3 different size of circles (with the help of a circle cutter) out of the Christmas cards we got our first year of marriage.(I think I used some of our wedding cards, too.) Then I bought those colored round stickers. (Think office max, what you'd put on a garage sale item.) Then you take a thin red or green ribbon and actually attach the round Christmas card cut-outs to the ribbon with the round sticker. SO cute. Looked adorable on our Christmas tree.

(does that make sense?)

My FAVORITE idea of all, is this one.
Martha's Brilliant idea

My friend gave me an ornament made out of our wedding invitation and I loved it. You could do that with Christmas cards, too. (I believe I did.)

Whew.

SO DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR CHRISTMAS CARDS.

I also keep the ones with pics. I throw all others away, I refuse to turn into my mother-in-law who still has her children's u-cords. I know (SICK)

Edit: I'd hole-punch a teeny "hole", not "whole."

Ugh.

nadja - let me know if you do any of that stuff. I feel as if you should then take a photo and put it on your blog.

(I ended up using the garland to decorate my basement for Christmas parties, too. I believe I still have it.)

In the rare case we would get a card that had a picture of someones family/child we would keep it, but after usually the end of january I throw them all away.

K. your ideas are fantastic!!! Way fun!

Hi. I found your blog through Two Pretzels, who is a serious overachiever. ;-)

I just recycle my cards. I HATE clutter, but I do feel a tinge of guilt when I get rid of them. Maybe I'll try some of K's fantastic ideas, when I decide to suddenly become a super-ambitious person.
