Party of 4? I don't know...
I was talking to my husband about how I don't want to stop breastfeeding Ms. Bee when she's a year old, does he think that's weird, yada yada yada and he asked "Well, don't you want to have another one soon?"
Do I? I don't know. I'm my mother's only child, so I can't even begin to picture what it's like to have another child around. Being an only child is pretty great. I never sat there and wished for a sibling. The idea of Athena not getting all the attention from me that she wants sounds devastating. Is that what it feels like for you kids out there from families of multiples?
Then on the flip side, I see the relationship that my mother in law has with her sisters and I think that I would love for Athena to experience that. I just don't know.
Tell me, what were your experiences like as children?

i have a younger sister and even though we fought like CRAZY as kids, we're the best of friends now.
i had the same issues about having a 2nd baby before Emma was born. would i have enough time, patience, love for another? would olivia feel like I was ignoring her? and then, Emma was born and i can't imagine life without both my girls.
it's great to watch Olivia be the big sister and do her best to take care of Emma.
and there really is enough time and attention and love to go around!
You know my view on this.... The more the marrier! As a mother you just can't explain that there is enough love to go around. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child I often thought about how Grace was going to feel. Sometimes my heart even ached for her, but she coped just fine. She took on the second mother role. Athena would love a sibling, you just have to want it too. TRUST ME NADJA, ATHENA WILL NOT GET SHAFTED BY ANOTHER CHILD IN YOUR HOME. IT WILL JUST MAKE HER STAND OUT MORE!!!!
Thank you guys. I love advice like this!!!
My sister and I were best buds up until highschool, and then again in college for a bit, and then we had some years off, but now we have a pretty solid brother sister relationship. It really was helpful when we were younger to have each other for playing around. Now that we are older she is 30, I'm 28, it's just nice to have someone that knows everything about your childhood, even the stuff your parents don't.
If T & I decide to have kids, I would like to have two. For us that is just the perfect number!
I love the relationship I have with my sister, and for being so far apart in age we are so close. I also have two much younger brothers who live in TN, and though I don't see them very much, when I do it is an instant bond, more so the older we get. There is just something about a relationship between siblings can be fantastic! I really appreciate more the older I get.
I agree with TLC whether it is 1 or 5 there will be plenty of love & attention to go around!
There's definitely something to be said about having siblings. I know this isn't true for all people, but I doubt that my sister and I would be as close as we are if we were closer in age. Eight years is enough time so that each of us got the attention we wanted, but different forms. There was no jealousy (as far as I remember anyway) if one of us got attention, because the required attention was so different. I wanted attention because I was going to kindergarten and my sister was becoming a teenager, for example.
Having siblings are great learning experiences. You get your earliest doses of diplomacy and ridicule that help you prepare for school and the real world.
I have an older brother that's three years older and I pretty much grew up with him; and I've got a younger brother, that is eleven years younger--so I baby sat him A LOT. I liked having siblings growing up--it's good company. Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of fights, but in the end, I wouldn't trade it.
I am an only child and I would give up a lot of things in life for a brother or sister. I think that bond is something special, even if you aren't that close.
When I was a kid, I thought being an only child was great. More for me! But as I got older I really thought I was missing out on something. I feel that way more than ever now. These comments say it all. And I've ALWAYS wondered what my brother or sister would look like.
I guess it'd be nice to at least have the option of being best friends with a sibling or hating them :)
I have always wished that I had more siblings. I have one sister, four years younger than me. We were never really close, and I always attributed that to our age difference, even though four years really isn't that big of a gap. But she is good for commiserating with over the idiosyncrasies and nuances of our parents!
My husband and his sister are seven years apart (they had a brother between them who died) and they are very close friends.
I, personally, would like to have at least one more. N. and I debate the number every day.
Louis is SO sure that he wants three. He was even dreaming last night about Athena being too rough with her little sister Sofia and breaking her hip. I said "Huh, I dreamt that the dog kept jumping up on the window ledge and peeing on it." If he had his way I would be pregnant already, have Sofia and then get pregnant IMMEDIATELY with Mel... yeah, they've all got names already.
i read a really compelling article in Time (or newsweek?) once about the bond of siblings. ultimately it's the BOND that outlasts any (your parents, your friends, your spouse) - so it's a pretty huge gift to give your kids some (or one?) sibling. i'm NOT a parent, so i also don't think that having one (if that's what you choose) is "wrong". i do believe that a sibling is a wonderful thing though (i have one twin brother and we do have a meaningful relationship)
